#ygkChallenge: Keep Donating

ygkchallenge, donate, Loblaws gift card, food bank, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Donate throughout the year. We’re all pretty tapped out for making donations at this time of year after a holiday season of going to concerts with food donation admission prices, dropping a few coins into donation boxes and giving our time and money to food banks and other charities. The thing is, donations are needed more than ever when it isn’t the holiday season. This week we challenge you to make a plan to continue to donate throughout the year. This doesn’t mean giving up big bucks all year round, but finding a way that makes financial sense to you. Every penny counts and goes a long way to help those in need. Spend a few extra dollars at the grocery store and drop a few non-perishables in the food bank bin on your way out once a month; after completing last week’s challenge, take those old winter coats, toys and kitchen appliances to a local charity or, if you haven’t already (and you’re eligible), register for a Loblaws gift card and drop it off at Partners in Mission Food Bank, Martha’s Table or Lunch By George. If we all give a little bit throughout the year, it can make a big difference for members in our community who are in need.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
