Remembering Vera Cochrane

Vera May Cochrane
December 22, 1933 – May 13, 2024

Surrounded by the love of her Ongwanada family, Vera Cochrane passed away at home in the early morning hours of May 13th, 2024.

In 1958 Vera came to live at Penrose, an institution where people with developmental disabilities came together to live and be active in a recreational setting.  When Vera was 65 years old, as people transitioned from institutional living to being part of a family home – Vera went to live with a lovely family in the Kingston Community through Ongwanada’s Host Family Program. After a decade of living in the beautiful area of Portsmouth Village, and as Vera’s physical care became more demanding – she went to live in Ongwanada’s Community Setting in the Gananoque Area.  The past twelve years she has lived in the Greater Napanee Area on Robinson Street.  Vera had enjoyed each home, as each was filled with such love among special friends.  Vera was a lady who was full of spunk, she enjoyed listening to music, especially country music.  Touring around town by going for van rides was also a highlight.

A Celebration of Vera’s life will be held on Friday, May 17th, 2024 at 1pm at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Blvd), followed by interment at Cataraqui Cemetery (927 Purdy Mills Road).    Everyone is welcome to attend.    As a special tribute to Vera, a tea party is being planned at a later date.

We considered it our privilege to support Vera over the past 65 years and give thanks for a life well-lived.  We mourn the loss of a dear friend who impacted us through wit, love and friendship.  Our heartfelt condolences are extended to everyone who has had the privilege of knowing, loving and caring for Vera.  Vera will be greatly missed.

Written with much love and gratitude,

Vera’s friends at Ongwanada.
