Winter weather advisory for Kingston and area

Environment Canada has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park.

Environment Canada said on Saturday afternoon that accumulating snowfall is expected Sunday and Sunday night. “This will be the first snowfall of the season for many locales and will likely impact road conditions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as untreated roads may become icy and slippery,” the national weather service cautioned.

Snow is expected to begin Sunday afternoon and persist throughout the day before moving out Sunday night. Snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 cm are expected.

“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays,” Environment Canada said.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada advised. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.”
