#ygkPlaylist: August 2017
With two big music festivals set to take place in August, this month’s #ygkPlaylist is dedicated to some of the local talent appearing (both past and present) at The Wolfe Island Music Festival, and The Mackinnon Brother’s Beer and Music Festival. Both festivals offer unique experiences, whereas WIMF is making it’s glorious return from a self-imposed one year hiatus, it’s got big name bands spread over one and half days of awesomeness on the Island. On the other hand, The Mackinnon Brother’s third annual Back to the Farm promises an entire day of sipping select beer varieties under the big tent in nearby Bath, with tons of Kingston’s musical talent on display. Hit play, and keep an eye out for us at both of these wonderful summer music festivals!
Forty Seven Teeth: this gritty indie pop band formed in Kingston, but now calls the Big Smoke home. They are known for writing memorable songs with impassioned grit, which courses through the speakers like a stream of erratic energy filled with unforgettable hooks. Their sound is tinged with a rawness that’s refreshing in its realness. It’s a sound that’s bred in the hearts of each member. Forty Seven Teeth are Anna Robertson, Dee Prescott, Jesse Aylesworth, and Matt Woo. Catch them at both the Wolfe Island Music Festival on August 11th. 12 Hands High: this five piece indie band plays mostly original tunes, and has a sound that is reminiscent of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, 12 Hands High employs strong harmonicas and/or juice harps, which are perfectly interwoven throughout their tunes. Each song has something to say, covering topics that range from truck driving to lost love and pure introspection. 12 Hands High are Patrick Hulley, Dale Robertson, Nik Pankow, Dave Wreggitt, and Cole Miller. 12 Hands High performed at last year’s Mackinnon Brother’s Beer and Music Festival. Goldwing: this genre-bending band has shared stages with the likes of 54-40, Treble Charger, USS, The Mahones and The Stellas. They were also named finalists in Canada’s Walk of Fame Emerging Artist Mentorship Program, and took home first place in two song-writing contests. With work on their sophomoric effort ongoing, here’s hoping fans won’t have to wait too much longer for their second studio album. Goldwing is Ryan Gollogly, Nick (Pickins) Patterson, Matt Kirby, Matt (Jeebs) Simpson, and Tony Silvestri. Goldwing performed at last year’s Mackinnon Brother’s Beer and Music Festival.
