#ygkChallenge: Help a Neighbour

help a neighbour, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Brighten a neighbour’s day. At this time of year, especially in this part of the province, it can be difficult to get around.  Sidewalks are icy and bumpy, roads are slick, and the bone-deep chill in the air is enough to keep most of us inside whenever possible.  While this is mostly just an inconvenience to a lot of us, for many it can create serious hardship when it comes to acquiring the basic necessities during the winter months.  For example, the elderly, especially those who don’t drive, can find it challenging to get out to run errands on a regular basis.  This week we challenge you to help out a neighbour in need.  There are a lot of ways to approach this.  Maybe knock on their door and see if they need you to pick anything up for them or perhaps they need you to take them somewhere.  Or, when you’re making your own meals this week, whip up a double batch of something delicious and freezable that you can bring to a neighbour who may not be able to make it to the grocery store.  If we work together, we can get through this winter, ygk!

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
