#ygkChallenge: Support Movember!

MovemberWelcome to Kingstonist’s weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we establish a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.

This week’s challenge encourages you to:

Support Movember! November or Movember as many moustache-laden supporters call it, is a month long campaign in support of men’s health initiatives focused on prostate and testicular cancer as well as mental health challenges. Originating in Australia in 2003, the campaign has spread across the world reaching more than 3.9 million supporters who have raised over 447 million dollars. This week I challenge you to get involved and support Movember. Did you know that 1 in 7 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime? In addition, the average life expectancy for Canadian men is four to five years less than for Canadian women. The Movember’s vision is to focus their efforts towards spreading awareness and educating the public, supporting research projects, helping men to live with and beyond cancer and mental illness, and staying mentally healthy. There are many ways to get involved including: growing a moustache for 30 days, joining or creating a team, raising money, promoting men’s health by encouraging loved ones to get regular check-ups, and donating to the cause to name a few.

For more information please visit movember.com.  Together we can empower men to take their health into their own hands! Prevention is the key!

Sign up and commit to completing this week’s challenge by commenting below with an “I’m in“, “challenge accepted“, “en garde” or something along those lines.
