#ygkChallenge: Purge!

ygkchallenge, purge, spring cleaning, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Purge! I have decided that for me, 2017 is going to be the year of the Big Purge. I’m not a hoarder by any means (although I guess it depends on who you ask…) but I have so much stuff tucked away in boxes and under my bed that I haven’t looked at or touched in years. There are old text books from university sitting on my book shelf “just in case”. Fast forward 14 years since graduation, and I can’t recall one time I cracked them open. In addition to books, there are old CDs I never listen to, dishes we never use, jewellery I never wear; and don’t even get me started on clothes. So, with March Break coming up and spring just around the corner, what better time to start getting rid of what I don’t need? This week, we challenge you to join in! Start small – maybe a box a day – and make a plan to donate whatever you can. Sell things too, if they seem worth it. Do whatever it takes to rid yourself of the unwanted, unneeded stuff in your life! You’ll feel better in the long run and maybe your unwanted things can go on to make someone else very happy.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
