#ygkChallenge: Put Together a Household Emergency Kit
The #ygkChallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkChallenge encourages you to:
Put together a household emergency kit. It’s Emergency Preparedness Week – a great time to prepare your household and everyone in it to face potential emergencies, like a fire or an ice storm or a zombie pandemic. This week’s #ygkchallenge come to us from Scott Davis, community emergency management coordinator for the City of Kingston. He challenges you to put together a household emergency kit that will allow you and yours to shelter-in-place for up to 72 hours. The City of Kingston has a list of items for the kit here. Extra credit if you make Go Bags for every member of your household (pets, too). You’ll notice the City is also having a “Prepare Yourselfie” contest, so if you get it together, snap a pic of yourself with your kit and send it in to [email protected] for a chance to win a fully-stocked Go Bag – or share it at #ygkprepared!
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
