#ygkChallenge: Give to The United Way
The #ygkChallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkChallenge encourages you to:
Make a donation to the United Way. Tomorrow, September 11th 2015, marks the kick off of Kingston’s annual United Way Campaign. As always, over 600 workplace volunteers will gather for breakfast at The Ambassador Hotel tomorrow morning at 7am to celebrate the start of this year’s campaign. The breakfast is open to the public as well. Get your tickets here. The United Way Campaign runs for three months every fall. Businesses, schools and other organizations participate by holding events and offering other incentives with a certain financial goal in mind to help provide services in their community. Funds raised go towards building stronger communities through programs such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters; The Boys’ and Girls’ Club; Youth Diversion Program; Joe’s MILL; Loving Spoonful; Success By Six; Almost Home; Martha’s Table; Dawn House; Youth Poverty Challenge; Dress for Success; Elizabeth Fry Society and many more. This week we challenge you to seek out an opportunity to donate or volunteer. Perhaps your own workplace is participating with weekly donations and dress down days. Or maybe you just want to make a lump donation to your favourite cause. Are you a student from out of town? You can see that your donation goes to a service back home that means a lot to you. Whatever you choose, your contribution can go a long way to helping our community. There are many ways to donate so check out the United Way website and help make a difference.
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
