#ygkChallenge: Fight Multiple Sclerosis

ygkchallenge, Multiple Sclerosis, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Fight Multiple Sclerosis. MS is classified as an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, which affects 1 in 340 Canadians. The disease attacks the protective covering of the nerves, which can cause inflammation and damage to the myelin, resulting in severe disruption of nerve impulses. While MS is most often diagnosed in young adults 15 to 40, younger children and older adults are also diagnosed with the disease.

Since May is MS awareness month in Canada, we want to encourage you to consider donating to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, which funds research that helps doctors diagnose MS, discover better treatments for MS and hopefully will find a cure for this disabling disease.

If you’re keen on going one step further, be on the lookout for the MS Society’s carnation campaign (a great early Mother’s Day gifts), or consider signing up and collecting donations for Kingston’s MS 5km Walk at LCVI on May 28th.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
