The #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:
Be kind. Things are tough right now. There is lots of bad news coming from many corners of the earth and if you spend any time on social media, you know it’s dragging a lot of us down. This is our chance to step up and find the little things that make times like this a bit easier to handle. So this week’s challenge is simple: be kind. Find ways in your day-to-day life to do something to make someone else smile. Pay for someone behind you in line at the coffee shop, hold the door for someone or help a neighbour shovel their walk. If you want to go a bit bigger, there are lots of ways to do that too. Volunteer some time with a local organization such as The Boys and Girls Club, Martha’s Table or a local retirement home. Find out how you can help refugees settling in Kingston; donate old clothing and other household items that are gathering dust, or make a financial donation to a cause that is meaningful to you. Big or small, whatever it is, we can all make a difference for others if we just take the time to think about what we have to offer. Let’s do something this week to make ygk and the world a little brighter.
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
Thanks to Martha’s Table for today’s pic.
