Victoria Park, 1940

Victoria Park, Vic Park, Kingston, OntarioAround 1880 the land that now makes up Victoria Park was purchased by Council with a mind to the future needs and growth of the city. The land was fenced off, planted with trees and, for a number of years, a hay crop was taken from it. According to Horsey’s history of Kingston, “many citizens considered it a crazy idea” to have such a park so far “out on the commons” . In celebration of the rejuvenation of this crazy idea here are some photographs take in the late 1940’s of the citizens of Kingston enjoying the variety of activities which are still available in Victoria Park today.
