A woman who was found to be driving under the influence caused a crash when she attempted a U-turn on a small side street off of Midland Avenue.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, the woman was driving southbound on Tivoli when she attempted to make a U-turn. During the turn, she drove over the curb on the south side of the road, and spun her tires in the grass, according to a press release from Kingston Police. The accused driver then shot forward onto the roadway, accelerating and crashing into the front end of a vehicle that was travelling westbound. The crash resulted in extensive damage to both vehicles, but neither driver suffered any injuries requiring medical attention.

The responding officer found that the accused driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer tested the level of alcohol in the accused’s system with a roadside testing device. The accused woman failed the roadside test and was subsequently arrested and transported to Kingston Police Headquarters. There, the woman provided two breath samples and was found to have approximately two times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The 36-year-old local woman is charged with operating a vehicle with over 80mg of alcohol in her system. Her driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days, and she will face a one-year suspension if convicted. Her vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the accused will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
