#ygkChallenge: Tree of Hope

ygkchallenge, Christmas Tree of Hope, Family and Children's Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Make a difference for someone in your community this holiday season. Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington has been giving hope to kids for over 100 years. The organization is a Children’s Aid Society and the families they serve need help – especially at this time of year. Last year, The Tree of Hope Christmas appeal gave food, toys, warm clothing and more to 857 people. Sixty-five percent of donations went to kids in Kingston, but donations also reach beyond ygk, making a difference in nearby towns including Napaness, Northbrook, Odessa, Sharbot Lake, Iverary, Yarker and Amherstview. While a large number of recipients are children, many teens, parents and caregivers also benefit from the Tree of Hope. This week, we challenge you to help make a difference for those in need in your community. There are a few ways to contribute: Sponsor a child or family; Run your own campaign at work, school, church or wherever you have a group of willing participants; Donate money, or Become a campaign sponsor. Visit the Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington website for more information on each of these options. There is no better way to make a difference than to help others. Put something special under the Tree of Hope this year.
