A 24-year-old man from Lansdowne is now in police custody after fleeing his vehicle when police pulled him over for speeding.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, Kingston Police tactical officers were driving eastbound on Princess Street near Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard in their unmarked truck. A car passed them travelling at approximately 75 km/h in a 50 km/h area, and the officers activated their emergency lights to pull the car over. The driver of the car pulled into the parking lot of the LCBO on Princess Street, but then jumped out of the car and began running southbound towards Cloverleaf Lanes bowling alley, leaving his passenger and a child in the car, according to Kingston Police.

Officers pursued the driver on foot, however, the driver then phoned the passenger in the vehicle and an officer who took the call was able to convince him to return to the parking lot. The driver was arrested and was charged with breaching all six conditions of his judicial release on his own recognizance.
