The above photo is from the 1961 Queen’s Tricolour yearbook. It pictures many of the ice sculptures done by various faculties and years on campus during the Snowball celebrations of that year. Pictured in the top left corner is the winner for the year — “Cold War”. Many of the sculptures from the 60’s had a political tone to their message. FebFest continues the snow sculpture competition here in Kingston with teams from Queen’s, RMC and St. Lawrence Engineering departments going head to head in a 24 hour contest. Student teams working in shifts of 10 people maximum will create sculptures which will be judged for sportsmanship; application of engineering principles; and aesthetic appeal. The clock starts at noon on the 5th so be sure to drop by Confederation Basin and take a look at the entries as they take shape.
