Two Napanee residents charged with impaired driving over the weekend

Officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with impaired driving after two separate incidents over the weekend.

The first incident occurred at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, when L&A OPP officers were patrolling in Greater Napanee. According to a release from the OPP, officers came across a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bridge Street West and Cherrywood Parkway. The OPP said that the drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles, and both sustained minor injuries. One driver was transported to hospital.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Thomas Verner, age 34, of Napanee, with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs/alcohol

The second incident took place on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m. According to the release, police were dispatched to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle at a residence on County Road 2 in Loyalist Township. The OPP said that the lone female driver of the vehicle was showing signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered. The driver was subsequently arrested.

As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Sherri Kenehan, age 57, of Napanee, with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs/alcohol (alcohol)

Both accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee at a later date. Their licences were suspended for 90 days, and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
