A scary situation had a happy ending at Sandbanks Provincial Park on the weekend.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, shortly after 5:30 p.m., the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a request for assistance from Provincial Park Wardens at Sandbanks Provincial Park asking for support to locate a six-year-old who had been missing for approximately 30 minutes and was last seen in the water.

According to a release from the OPP, emergency services attended and were provided with tremendous community support. The OPP provided the above photo, and explained that individuals formed a line and methodically searched the beach and water. The child was located more than a kilometre up the beach.

The OPP would like to thank everyone who offered their assistance.
