Best Tailor in Kingston
I had a bit of an emergency experience last week. OK, not really an emergency in the grand scheme of things, but I needed help and had little time to get it. I was packing my things for a weekend away, during which I would need to wear a cocktail dress. I pulled it out of the closet less than 24 hours before leaving to discover a tear in one of the seams. Crap. It’s one thing to not be able to wear a pair of jeans or a t-shirt but a cocktail dress is a bit trickier – I don’t have ten of them in my closet ready to go, and buying a new one can be a pricey and time consuming venture. So, I held my breath, prayed to the karma gods and made my way to a tailor located downtown. I explained my situation, expecting a laughing response telling me how swamped they are, and I wouldn’t have been surprised at all. As I walked in I immediately noticed that the walls were lined with garments waiting to be mended and all six sewing machines were whirring away. The woman at the counter was incredibly sweet and sympathetic and, after speaking with one of the tailors, was able to assure me that I could pick up my dress first thing the next morning. I left full of relief and thrilled to live in a town where people are willing to go above and beyond to help others (I had also just had some shoes repaired in a very timely manner). Best part of the story is, they called me that very afternoon saying the dress was ready. Sweet relief. So, not a true emergency, but it was something that meant a lot to me at the time.
I have had great customer service and quality work done at a few tailors in the downtown core. This story is just one example of the fine work that is being done by these small businesses in Kingston. And they have a lot to do. Aside from the everyday customers that need hems sewn and holes patched, many tailors in Kingston also need to specialize in military uniforms, kilts and other apparel related to our various institutions, to stay ahead of the game.
This week, we want to give some love to the people who keep our clothes in tact and make us look good. We want to know:

I’m sure we missed a lot of options on this week’s poll. Many people do this sort of work as freelancers from their homes, relying on word of mouth. So, if we missed your go-to tailor, please, give them a shout out in the comments below. Tell us why your choice is the best. Maybe you have a story like mine where someone came to your rescue when you needed work done in a pinch. We want to hear all about the great (and maybe the not-so-great) service you’ve received form ygk tailors.
