Remembering James “Dylan” Stewart

James Dylan Thomas Stewart, UE, BA
15 January 1993 – 19 April 2024

Surrounded by the love and admiration of his family and of his friends, James “Dylan” Thomas Stewart passed away peacefully after a difficult three year battle with cancer.  He was the only son of Leslie and Kent Stewart of Kingston, Ontario, and beloved boyfriend to Rachel Bishop, also of Kingston.  Dylan loved many things; his family and friends, his cats, his collectables, and music.  He was an accomplished tenor and snare drummer and was a member of the Rob Roy Pipe Band and the Toronto Police Pipe Band (Grade 1).   Dylan was a proud descendent of United Empire Loyalists and continued to study Canadian history long after graduating from the University of Guelph.  Dylan was a warrior.  At 31 years of age, and legally blind, he conquered obstacles and fought for his independence.  His achievements throughout his life are a testament to his determination and drive to succeed.  He faced his cancer battle with the same perseverance and determination that made him the person we all knew and loved.

Without even realizing it, you helped others to find strength to face life’s hurdles and obstacles.  You were well respected, dearly loved and we are all better people for having had you in our lives. Everyone knew how important your family and friends were to you and how very much you loved them. You were a loving son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and brother to many.  You were a compassionate friend, mentor to many, and always willing to help others whenever you could. In your life, you led with your heart.  We all thank you for having been here, on this earth, for all of us to love. On April 19th, 2024, you left us, far too soon.

Dylan fought hard alongside an amazing medical team; Dr. Richard Gregg(retired), Dr. Andrea Fung, Dr. Danielle Kain, Dr. Shirley Stiver, Dr. Andrew Ross, the nursing staff of Davies 4 ICU and Kidd 9 Palliative Care.

We will never, ever forget you and you will always be in our hearts. Rest in Peace our dearest Dylan.

As per Dylan’s wishes, there will be no funeral, visitation, or service.  Dylan wanted a party, so a party it will be; “this is the way”.  Saturday, May 18, 2024, starting 2pm at the Event Hall, Rideau Acres Campground, 1014 Cunningham Road, Kingston, Ontario.
