Obituary for the late Peter Butler

BUTLER, Peter Howard – With sadness and warm memories we announce the passing of our father, Peter Howard Butler, on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Kingston General Hospital. Peter lived an eventful 89 years – an amazing 60 years with our mother Joan – and made an (almost) daily ritual, to the very end, of walking generations of golden retrievers at Lemoine Point. Lifetime partner of Joan (2019), beloved father of Derek (Laura), David (Sandy), Anne (Brian) and Jennifer (Simon). Proudest of grandfathers of Cameron, Emily, Katherine, Jane, Matthew and Clare – and most loving best friend to (over the years) Thor, Tara, Angus, Fergus, Thor II and now Loki. Survived by his younger siblings Michael, Suzanne and Tony. Our most heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at KGH for helping Peter pass with compassion and dignity. Peter will be remembered as an avid sailor, walker of untrained but affectionate dogs, and devoted volunteer with the Friends of Lemoine Point. Our family will hold a private family celebration of Peter’s life, and we invite friends and colleagues to contribute in Peter’s honour to the Friends of Lemoine Point – which holds a very special place in all our hearts.
