Obituary for the late John Swerbrick

John Allan Swerbrick
May 30, 1931 – September 2, 2023
John passed away peacefully on September 2nd with family by his side at Arbour Heights Long Term Care Home. John is predeceased by his parents, Mordy Swerbrick and Edna May Swerbrick (nee Garrett) as well as his sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Palmer.
John will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife Freda (nee Porter), his son Doug (Jennifer) and his granddaughter Kate. He will also be missed by brother-in-law Ed Etmanski, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A quiet, gentle man, John enjoyed working with his hands. He could build or fix almost anything and had endless patience when tackling a project. His other hobbies included euchre, square dancing, and playing the harmonica. He was a lifelong, and forever hopeful, Toronto Maple Leafs fan. John played hockey in his youth and later enjoyed curling and bowling.  John and Freda loved their home in LaSalle Park and were fortunate to have had so many wonderful neighbors over the years.  They spent summer weekends at their trailer with dear friends at Brown’s Campground on Mazinaw Lake. They continued to go there until they were in their early 80’s. John worked at DuPont Canada for many years and at Alcan before that.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Arbour Heights and to all the PSW’s and support workers who helped John and Freda in their home throughout these past few years. As per John’s wishes a private service will be held at the graveside and a memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of KFL&A.
