Obituary for Grace Bullock

Grace Alma Bullock (née McCready)

Grace slipped away peacefully surrounded by family on June 7th, 2024 at the age of 96.

She was predeceased by brothers Rupert, Alex, Tom, Floyd and Bruce, and sister Frances. Grace leaves behind her three children  Wendy McLaughlan, Suzanne Bullock (Richard Tait), Andrew Bullock (Bonnie Brandt) and her grandson Dylan Bullock, along with her sister Beatrice Webster and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

Grace McCready was born February 7th, 1928 to James and Mariam McCready (née Tye) in Lansdowne, Ontario, the sixth of eight children.

After growing up on the busy family dairy farm she moved into Lansdowne village to work at the General Store. From there she was “headhunted” by Mr. Stacey to work at Stacey’s Department Store in Kingston.

In 1953 Grace was visiting home when she met Charles Herbert Bullock, who had accompanied his brother-in-law, Stewart McCready, a distant cousin of her family, on a visit from New Jersey.  Love soon followed and led to marriage on June 5th, 1954.  They began their life and family in Plainfield, New Jersey.  In 1966 they moved to Kingston, Ontario where Grace became a real estate agent until her retirement. She found joy in meeting each family and took great pride in finding them their perfect home.

Grace was a resolute, courageous and creative woman who led by example. She lived her faith with kindness, honesty and generosity.  She was a skilled seamstress, needle worker and quilter, an avid gardener and voracious reader; she was self educated with a quiet, understated elegance.

Her family was always her deep commitment and love. Her loving support, wisdom and common sense will be profoundly missed.  Her wry sense of humour and her beautiful smile will be a lasting memory for everyone who knew her.

A heartfelt thank you from the family to the staff of Nurse Next Door, Conservatory Pond and Home & Community Care.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston, Ontario on Saturday June 15th, 2024 at 2:00 pm.  Visitation will start at 1:00 pm.
