Obituary for Glen Stewart

Glen Lesley Stewart

June 3, 1936 – July 23, 2023

On Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 10 pm, Glen’s family said goodbye to the loving husband to Beverly, father to Hollie (Ian), Julie (Jamie), and Jonathan (Beth), grandfather to Charlotte and Harrison, brother to Blake (Barbara), and brother-in-law to Jeff, Al, and Mary. Glen passed very peacefully at KGH while listening to his favourite Van Morrison song. Most of his immediate family were exceptionally fortunate to have time to say our goodbyes and share our love with him while he was still able to understand and do the same and, while we are terribly saddened at Glen’s passing, we know how hard he fought to stay with us for as long as he did, and relieved that he can now rest. Glen leaves behind a long legacy of community involvement in the arts, continued through his children and grandchildren, as well as generations of people who were touched and aided by him in his role as a devoted and inspirational educator. Glen’s unyielding optimism, the joy he found in life, and fierce devotion to family and friends were his hallmark, and will be how he is remembered. His family are very much looking forward to sharing and hearing stories from the community he gathered around him during his time with us, and offer sincere thanks for your devotion to him. The family is respecting Glen’s wishes in not having a funeral or memorial service, but his many friends can be sure that there will be a proper celebration of this extraordinary life in the near future.

Sincere thanks as well for the dedicated and compassionate care he received while in hospital, and from his PSW’s. The exceptional people who work in these fields made his stay and passing much easier than it might have been, both for him and for his family.
