In Loving Memory of Mable Baumhauer

BAUMHAUER, Mable Delphine

May 7, 1932 – October 12, 2023

Passed away at Kingston General Hospital due to complications from Covid, pneumonia and dementia. Predeceased by her husband Cleve, March 20, 2020. Survived by daughter Cynthia.

My mother was born in Harrowsmith and raised on a dairy farm in Enterprise. Mom was an intelligent, quiet, kind, thoughtful, dignified woman. She began her working career as a Bell telephone operator before settling into her chosen profession as an accountant. She was employed at Weston Bakery, Vicom/NYAB, then establishing her own business before retiring in 2018 after a long and successful career. She always received high praise from auditors for keeping a meticulous set of books. After many years working in the accounting field she earned her certificate from St. Lawrence College.

Her hobbies were crossword puzzles, reading, scrabble, Chinese checkers, parcheesi and snakes and ladders. She taught me these when I was young. My mother was a competitive but fun gaming partner.

In recent years she thoroughly enjoyed long country drives enjoying the scenery and wildlife. Westport was a favourite destination. Special treats were visits to Dairy Queen for strawberry sundaes and dining out.

Heartfelt thanks to Anne and Stephen for their support, meals, drives to and from the hospital at all hours. Very special thanks to nurses Kim, Katie and Sara on Davies 4 ICU, and Amey and Cassie on Connell 9 for their kind, compassionate care to my mom in her final days.

In honour of my mother’s memory donations to the Alzheimers Society, Kingston Humane Society, or Sandy Pines Wildlife Center are appreciated.
