In Loving Memory of Gord Belyea

BELYEA, Wilbert Gordon

With great sadness Millie announces the passing of Gord, beloved husband of 47 years.

Gord was born May 23, 1931, and passed peacefully on August 20, 2023 at KGH. Gord was the son of Wilbert H. and Winnifred Belyea, and dear brother of Harold (deceased). Fondly remembered by sisters in law, Ruth Belyea, (Harold, deceased), Vivian Vella (Nick) deceased, Linda Freeman (Bruce, deceased), Wendy Hudson (deceased), Louise Belyea (Gordon L.) and bother in law, Mark Hudson (Merry Lynn, deceased). Remembered well by nieces and nephews.

Gord was born into a fishing family on Simcoe Island where, during his childhood, his love for nature and the outdoors was born and nurtured.

He moved to the mainland for his high school years, part of which was spent at Albert College in Belleville. Upon graduation he entered the banking world where he worked for forty years before retiring.

Never one to just sit around, he began to explore areas of interest that might be the most rewarding. He began with photography then developed his skills at taxidermy. Always being drawn to the natural world, he started to carve animal figures – ducks in particular.

When that ran its course, he tried his hand at painting and discovered it offered him both joy and a true sense of accomplishment. It was a pastime that continued to inspire him as he committed himself to studying a variety of subject matter, techniques and materials. Family and friends have been gifted over the years with many of his treasured works.

As per Gord’s wishes, cremation has taken place. He requested no visitation or service. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Gord’s memory, please consider Wolfe Island United Church, Friends of Lemoine Point or a charity of your choosing.

The family would like to thank the staff of Connell 9 at KGH for the compassionate care Gord was given.
