Youth and adult charged for stealing school bus in Kingston’s north end

A 16-year-old and a 26-year-old have been arrested and charged after stealing a school bus from a parking lot over the weekend.

According to Kingston Police, a report of the stolen bus came in at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019. The bus had been parked in a parking lot on Compton Street.

Police arrived on the scene and, within five minutes, were able to locate the bus, which had been abandoned on Clubhouse Drive. After speaking with witnesses, the responding officers were able track down the two suspects at a shopping plaza on Weller Avenue. Both suspects were observed on security video, and the identity of the 16-year-old driver was confirmed, police said.

Just under an hour later, officers located the youth and his accomplice at the youth’s home. Both parties were arrested. During a search, the youth was found to be in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The 16-year-old local youth was charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Dangerous driving
  • Five counts of breach of probation

The 26-year-old Kingston man was charged with:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime
  • Two counts of breach of recognizance
