York driver facing multiple charges after traffic stop in Stone Mills

A traffic stop in Stone Mills Township has lead to multiple charges for a driver from York, Ontario, over the long weekend.

Just before 11 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2024, officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted the traffic stop in County Road 41 in Stone Mills Township.

According to a release from the OPP, officers spoke with the driver and attempted to place them under arrest, at which point the driver resisted and fled on foot into a wooded area.

“The OPP Canine Unit, along with members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) responded to the scene to assist members of the L&A County Detachment, and the driver was located and arrested a short time later,” the OPP stated.

Datius Charlery, 32 years old, of York, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle while impaired alcohol/drugs
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Escape from lawful custody
  • Two counts of obstructing a peace officer
  • Six counts of failing to comply with release order
  • Speeding 1 – 49km/h over posted limit
  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

Charlery was held in custody pending a bail hearing, police said.
