YMCA updates staff, protocols before reopening

The YMCA of Eastern Ontario is re-opening their facilities for members on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.
“Our first priority has always been on the safety of everyone in our facilities and this re-opening phase will stay true to this approach” said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “Opening on February 22 allows us time to work with our public health units to ensure the correct protocols are in place. It also provides time needed to get our facilities ready including having time for public health inspections, to recall staff and to ensure that staff are re-trained on the protocols that will be in place.”
During the first week of opening, the YMCA says they will be ramping up fitness classes with a regular schedule in place effective Monday, March 1, 2021.
Online registration for space (fitness centre, gym, pool) and for fitness classes will be required. This is a change from how members have accessed the Y in the past and the YMCA says they will post details on this in the coming days along with the new class schedules.
Other safety measures including limiting access to their facilities to local members, maintaining physical distancing, sanitizing, masking will remain in place. The YMCA implemented these measures in November 2020 in response to Public Health guidelines for the region.
Full details of operations when the facilities reopen can be found here. YMCA says anyone who refuses to follow health and safety rules will be required to leave.
Membership fees will resume on the usual schedule beginning Monday, March 1, 2021.
Stay up to date with re-opening details on the YMCA news page and through their social media channels.
