Woman arrested, charged with arson following fire behind downtown strip mall

Kingston Police have arrested and charged a 40-year-old local woman after a fire broke out behind the strip mall located at Division and Concession Streets.
Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to the fire, and, after determining it was deliberately set, contact Kingston Police on the morning of Sunday, Jul. 15, 2018. Responding officers found that a security video showed a female walk to the back of the building and set a mattress and box spring on fire. The mattress was outside the back loading door of the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. Based on that video, police were able to identify the accused, and she was spotted later that day at Megaffin Park, according to a press release from Kingston Police.
The accused was arrested and charged with arson, mischief, and breach of probation.
The cost of the damages to the exterior of the building is estimated at over $15,000. The plaza houses a number of businesses including East Side Village restaurant, the Salvation Army Thrift Store, and Salvation Army offices, a First Choice Haircutters, and Coffee Way Donuts.
