Winter storm warning for Kingston and area

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton and Sandbanks Park, with heavy snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures expected this weekend.

Eastern Ontario will be on the northern fringe of a major winter storm that will track south of the Great Lakes this weekend.

Periods of snow associated with this weather system will begin Saturday afternoon and taper off Sunday morning. The latest analysis continues to suggest that snowfall amounts will range from near 15 cm near Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River to 5 to 10 cm 40 km north of Highway 401. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Bitterly cold temperatures and stiff northerly winds will result in wind chill values in the minus 25 to minus 35 range that will continue into Monday morning.
