Wind warning issued for Kingston area

Environment Canada has issued a Wind Warning for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Greater Napanee, Consecon, Picton and Sandbanks Park.

“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions,” said Environment Canada in the advisory.

Environment Canada expects strong winds gusting up to 100 km/h on Sunday afternoon, due to a strengthening low pressure system that is forecast to track across northeastern Ontario Sunday.

“This system will bring southerly winds gusting up to 70 km/h by early Sunday morning. Even stronger southwesterly winds gusting up to 100 km/h will be ushered in with the passage of a cold front Sunday afternoon,” said the advisory.

Residents are advised to prepare for possible power outages and damage to property, as strong winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind is expected to slowly ease Sunday night into Monday morning, according to Environment Canada.
