What’s open and closed for August Civic Holiday 2023 in Kingston

While there are plenty of names and reasons for it across the country and even here in Ontario, the holiday that falls on the first Monday in August is referred to as the ‘Civic Holiday’ in Kingston.

And although ‘Civic Holiday’ doesn’t mean much beyond the fact that it is down to municipalities to decide whether to observe the holiday or not, there’s always a good reason for a long weekend.

Since the holiday falls in the middle of summer, there’ll be no shortage of things to do in the Kingston area and beyond, but there are no official celebrations associated with the holiday here in #YGK. Still, the last thing anyone needs is to find themselves on the last day of a long weekend not knowing what’s open, where to grab some groceries, or whether their garbage should go out on their regular pick-up day.

Never fear, Kingston Civic Holiday observers! As always, Kingstonist has gathered the details on what’s open and closed on the Civic Holiday — Monday, Aug. 7, 2023 — as well as information regarding City of Kingston services.
