Snow squall warning for Kingston area

Environment Canada has issued a Snow Squall Warning for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park.

“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions,” says the advisory.

On Friday evening, Environment Canada say that flurries are expected beginning near midnight, with snowfall of about 10 cm and sustained winds of about 40 km/h, with gusts up to 70 km/h.

A risk of snow squalls will continue early on Saturday morning, says the weather service, with blowing snow early in the morning and local amounts of 2 to 4 cm. Winds of about 30 km/h are expected, possibly gusting up to 50 km/h.

On Saturday night, a few flurries are expected ending near midnight, with a further 2 cm of snow and winds between 20 km/h and 40 km/h.

The snow squalls are expected to make travel hazardous, particularly along areas of the 401.
