Severe thunderstorm watch, tornado warnings issued for Kingston and surrounding areas
Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park.
In addition, Environment Canada has issued a Tornado Warning for Tamworth, Sydenham, South Frontenac, Westport, Charleston Lake, Plevna, Sharbot Lake and Western Lanark County. Persons in or near these areas should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.
The national weather service issues Thunderstorm Watches when conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, and Warnings when hazards are imminent.
“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” says Environment Canada.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
