Severe thunderstorm watch issued for areas north of Kingston

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Stirling, Tweed, Madoc, Tamworth, Sydenham and South Frontenac.

The weather service indicates that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. The conditions may include damaging wind gusts near 90 km/h, hail near 2 cm in size, and the risk of a tornado.

The thunderstorm may occur any time through the day and into this evening.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
