Murder suspect from Texas falls to his death in Brockville

A man who plunged to his death from the North Augusta Road overpass of the 401 in Brockville has been identified as Alberto Ayala-Guerrero.

Ayala-Guerrero was a fugitive from Houston, Texas, accused of fatally shooting a woman on Monday, Jul 13, 2020. According to police, the victim was hosting Ayala-Guerrero’s estranged wife and her brother, both of whom Ayala-Guerrero attacked. The male sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Brockville police approached Ayala-Guerrero around 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jul. 25, 2020 after identifying him as a “person of interest,” the SIU said. He then jumped over the guardrail and fell to the highway below. He was pronounced deceased in hospital, SIU says.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is continuing to investigate this incident.

It’s unclear how Ayala-Guerrero entered Canada following the alleged homicide in the US, despite the charges and travel restrictions related to COVID-19. Houston Police say they believe Ayala-Guerrero fled to Brockville, Ont. in a Honda Civic.

The SIU is asking anyone who may have information about Ayala-Guerrero’s death to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
