Variety of Mars Wrigley Canada gummies recalled due to potential metal shards
A number of packaged gummy candies produced by Mars Wrigley Canada have been recalled due to “the potential of thin metal shards embedded in the gummies” or loose within the product packaging, according to the manufacturer.
On Friday, May 13, 2022, Mars Wrigley Canada announced the voluntary recall of specific varieties of gummy products, following reports of the metal shards from consumers. The company’s SKITTLES®, STARBURST®, and LIFE SAVERS® brand gummies are the affected products, which may contain “very thin metal strand” fragments, Mars Wrigley Canada said, noting they “are not aware of any illnesses to date.”

The company said the affected products were manufactured by a third party and distributed in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Specifically, the products subject to this recall in Canada include specific varieties of SKITTLES® Gummies, STARBURST® Gummies and LIFE SAVERS® Gummies. To determine if one of said products is among those affected, consumers/resellers must check the first three digits in the 10-digit manufacturing code located on the back of the packages. The implicated products will have a 10-digit manufacturing code as outlined in the table below.

“Mars Wrigley Canada will work with retailers to remove recalled product from store shelves,” the company said. “If consumers believe they have purchased a recalled item, they should dispose of the product and not consume it. Consumers with questions can contact the company by calling 1-800-651-2564 or by visiting https://www.mars.com/contact-us.”
