Utilities Kingston advises of planned water outage in Westbrook

Utilities Kingston has released a statement advising their customers on Westbrook Road of a planned water outage, which will take place next week.
The utility company said the work will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 25, 2023, and the outage has an estimated end time of 5 p.m. The outage will affect customers on Westbrook Road from Princess Street to Heath Street.
“There will be a water outage while crews are performing water main relining in this area,” Utilities Kingston said in the statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience of this water service outage.”
The utility company provided the following details on what to do or expect during and after the outage:
Discoloured Tap Water
Discoloured water is still safe water. Sedimentation (usually iron deposits in metal pipes) occurs as a normal part of the water distribution system.
If your water is discoloured, flush your pipes as follows:
- Turn on the cold water tap that is closest to your water meter.
- Let it run until the water turns clear. This may take 5 to 25 minutes.
Potable Water
The City of Kingston emergency management plan suggests that each household has at the ready four litres of water, per person, per day for drinking and bathing.
Full details on the outage are available on Utilities Kingston’s website.
