As the Freezing Rain Warning continues for Kingston and the area, Environment Canada is now advising of strong winds headed this way.

Environment Canada issued an updated Freezing Rain Warning at 4:03 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 for the Kingston – Odessa – Frontenac Islands area, as well as the Napanee – Consecon and Picton – Sandbanks Park areas. This came after a previous Freezing Rain Warning issued at 11:48 a.m.

The warning maintains that freezing rain mixed with ice pellets will continue until this evening, when a change to freezing drizzle is forecast. The warning of hazardous travelling conditions and possible icy, slippery surfaces remains.

“In the wake of this weather system, strong westerly winds with gusts in the 70 to 90 km/h range may be possible Thursday overnight into Friday,” the updated Warning reads.

“Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.”

Please refrain from travelling if at all possible, and check in on vulnerable friends, neighbours and relatives where necessary.
