Update: Fifth suspect arrested in relation to Sydenham Road home invasion, stabbing

Kingston Police has now arrested all five suspects in relation to the home invasion and assaults that occurred in the early morning of Thursday, Sept. 17 on Sydenham Road.

Three of the accused, Matthew Batista, Herbert Mansfield, and Mitchell Rattray were arrested on Thursday. A fourth, Matthew Freeland, was arrested the next day and the last remaining suspect, a minor whose identity will not be released due to age, was arrested without incident on Tuesday, Sept. 22 by the Street Crimes unit at a Compton Street residence.

All five are charged with attempted murder, breaking and entering, using a disguise, robbery, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. In addition to the charges, they were also ordered to have no contact, direct or indirect, with a number of parties, as well as each other.

On Thursday, Sept. 17 shortly after 1 a.m., police were called to a detached home on Sydenham Road north of Highway 401. The female caller reported that four males had entered the home and assaulted two of the occupants. The attack left a 43-year-old male with multiple stab wounds. While his injuries were not life-threatening the victim did undergo a surgical procedure. The second victim, a 22-year-old male was treated for head injury caused by blunt trauma.
