Those who frequently use the ‘noisy bridge’ between the downtown core and Kingston’s east end will want to plan for some delays in traffic over the coming days.

According to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), there will be alternating lane closures on the LaSalle Causeway beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 23 and continuing until 6 a.m. on Monday, Apr. 26, 2021. These closures are to allow for repair work.

“During this period, one lane will be closed and one lane will remain open for alternating traffic, and portable lane control signals will be used on site to direct traffic. Motorists should expect short delays,” PSPC said in a press release.

Motorists should note that there will be a period of complete closure of the bridge to motorists for a maximum of five hours during the night.

The Causeway will remain open to cyclists and pedestrians, and marine traffic will not be impacted.

Following this period of work, additional closures will take place. Lane closures on the Causeway will take place to allow for maintenance work on Monday, Apr. 26, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then again from 6 p.m. to midnight.

“During these periods, one lane will be closed and one lane will remain open for alternating traffic, and two flagpersons will be on site to direct traffic. Motorists should expect short delays,” PSPC said.

Those closures will not impact cycling, pedestrian or marine traffic.

In the case of inclement weather, the schedule will be delayed by one day. PSPC encourages users to exercise caution when travelling on the bridge during these periods of time.
