Unprovoked attack leads to assault charge for Kingston woman

A woman requesting to use a lighter in downtown Kingston turned violent on the lighter owner out of nowhere and is now facing an assault charge.
The incident took place out front of a downtown grocery store on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at approximately 9:20 p.m. The accused woman went to the grocery store and approached the female victim, who was sitting outside of the store smoking a cigarette. The accused woman asked to use the victim’s lighter, but, before the victim could respond, the accused grabbed for the lighter and a struggle ensued. During the scuffle, the accused woman pulled the victim’s hair and kicked her in the face causing injury.
Police were contacted and responding officers located the accused woman still on the scene. The accused woman not only appeared to be intoxicated, she was also holding an alcoholic beverage in her hand.
Subsequently, the 55-year-old local woman was arrested and charged with assault.
