Unauthorized items seized at Collins Bay Institution

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is crediting “the vigilance of staff members” for the recent seizure of a package containing unauthorized items at Collins Bay Institution.

The package was seized on the perimeter of the medium security unit of the Institution at about 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018. Items seized included 510 grams of tobacco and 32.8 grams of cigar wrappings. The estimated institutional value of the seized items is $10,000, according to a press release from CSC.

“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” said CSC, which introduced a complete smoking ban in all federal correctional institutions in 2008.

“CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”
