Two youths charged after fiery crash of stolen vehicle
Two 14-year-old Kingston youths are facing charges after crashing a stolen car and attempting to flee the scene.
Officers from the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the area of Highway 15 and Leo Lake Road in Kingston at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018. There, a vehicle that had been involved in a collision and was on fire.
The responding officers received information that the people involved in the collision had left the scene, according to a press release from the OPP. The two suspects were located nearby by an assisting officer from the Leeds County detachment of the OPP.
As a result of the ensuing investigation, two 14-year-old male youths were arrested and charged. The driver was charged with dangerous driving, possession of stolen property over $5,000, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, and driving a motor vehicle without a licence. The passenger was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Both youths were released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.
