Two vehicle collision closes two westbound lanes on Highway 401

On the afternoon of Monday, May 6, 2024, a collision led to lane closures on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Kingston.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the collision involved two vehicles. “The driver of the passenger car left the roadway on the Sir John A Macdonald ramp and travelled through the median, entering back onto the highway where it struck a tractor trailer just after 3:35 p.m.,” said Cst. Rob Martell, in a media release.

Martell noted that witnesses reported that the driver was in medical distress right before the collision.

“The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured,” he continued.

Police noted that the highway was reduced to one lane for approximately 45 minutes.

The investigation is continuing and charges may be laid.
