Two-time Olympian in Sailing Tom Ramshaw to meet young athletes in Kingston

Young athletes competing in Sail Canada’s Laser (ILCA) Youth Championships competitions in Kingston will have the chance to meet two-time Olympian in Sailing Tom Ramshaw on Thursday, Aug.12, 2021.
Ramshaw, who competed in his second Olympic Games over the past two weeks in Tokyo, took 10th spot overall in the Finn class, therefore coming up with the best Canadian performance in this event since 2008 in Beijing and the fourth-best Canadian result in this event since 1984.
According to a media release from Sail Canada, on Thursday, the Olympic sailor, who finished 21st in Rio in 2016, will meet with the young athletes as over 160 sailors are taking part in this ILCA 4 (Laser 4.7) and ILCA 6 (Laser Radial) competitions in Kingston.
Held by CORK, the ILCA Youth Championships welcomes athletes of 19 years old and younger coming from across the country, including from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. They are all aiming to earn a spot and represent Canada at the Youth World Championships to be held in December in Oman.
The following is Tom Ramshaw’s schedule for Thursday, August 12 in Kingston:
- 9:30 a.m to 10:30 a.m.: he will walk in the boat park and meet with the young sailors before the start of their competition
- 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: start of the last day of competition at Sail Canada’s 2021 Laser (ILCA) Youth Championships and he will go on the water with coaches
- Between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.: he will take part in the awards presentation
