Two staff members assaulted at Collins Bay Institution

Two staff members in the medium security unit at Collins Bay Institution were assaulted at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018.

Both staff members were injured, and they were evaluated and treated at an outside hospital. The assailants have been identified and the appropriate actions will be taken, according to a press release from Correctional Service Canada.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and institution are currently investigating the incident.

“In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances of the incident and take appropriate measures,” CSC said.

“The safety and security of institutions, their staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.”
