Two people charged with stunt driving on Highway 401 in as many days

In the overnight hours between Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29, 2023, members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two drivers in separate stunt driving related investigations.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 28, officers observed a vehicle travelling 174 km/hr on Highway 401 westbound by County Road 4, according to a release from the OPP.

As a result, a 22-year-old male, from New York, NY, was charged with:

  • Stunt driving (driving at excessive speed)
  • Careless driving

A few hours later, around 4 a.m. on May 29, the OPP said that officers observed a vehicle travelling 185 km/hr on Highway 401 westbound by Palace Road.

As a result, a 24-year-old male, from North York, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Stunt driving (driving at excessive speed)
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
  • Driving a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available

Both accused are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Greater Napanee at a later date. All accused had their licenses suspended for 30 days, and vehicles were impounded for 14 days.

“The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways and will be increasing enforcement on all highways as the summer traffic volumes increase,” the police force stated.
