Two men arrested after fleeing collision involving vehicle stolen from Kingston

Police were involved in a foot chase after a resident in Drummond-North Elmsley township awoke to a vehicle in the ditch and two males attempting to get it out.

According to the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the collision occurred on Drummond Concession 5A just before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019.  The resident and witness contacted police.

Officers from Lanark detachment arrived on the scene and, after a brief foot chase, were able to locate and arrest one male, and the second male was arrested shortly thereafter.

The subsequent investigation found that the vehicle in the ditch had been stolen in Kingston.

The first male, Jeffery Hamilton, 22, of Perth, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Trespassing at night
  • Two counts of failure to comply with a probation order
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Obstructing a peace officer

The second male, Joel Closs, 26, of Tay Valley Township, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Trespassing at night
  • Two counts of failure to comply with a probation order
  • Three counts of failure to comply with a recognizance order
  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Obstructing a peace officer
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance: Cocaine
